In his follow up to the best selling book, “You Can Run, But You Can’t Hide”, Duane “Dog” Chapman takes the reader through several series of events that occurred following the release of his first book. Dog takes the time to discuss his racial comment uproar that lead to his TV program taking a leave of absence, the possibility of being sent back to Mexico after capturing Andrew Luster, the falling out with his nephew Justin and a few other stories that have all involved Dog.
The book begins with Dog talking about the capture that made him famous, when he and his team captured fugitive Andrew Luster in Mexico. Dog then goes into detail about the night with the federal government raided his house and arrested him, as well as his son Leland “brother” Tim at their homes elsewhere in Hawaii.
Dog then discusses the brief time he spent in prison until he, Leland and Tim were bailed out by his wife Beth and how all three had to wear ankle bracelets while on probation. Dog then talks about the difficulties his family would go through with his original legal team, but then how select changes made the legal process a lot better.
Dog then talks about how the Mexican government eventually dropped all charges against him, but still faced certain charges in America for the Andrew Luster capturing. Dog goes into details about the legal battle he had in North America and his feelings about how his country could charge him with crimes, despite capturing one of the most wanted men in North America.
Following that situation, Dog goes into the controversy that nearly caused the cancellation of his television program, the much discussed “N word” controversy. To catch up those who may not of heard about it, during a heated argument with his son Tucker, Dog used the “N word” multiple times, mainly to describe his son’s African American girlfriend, the phone conversation was reordered by Tucker.
Dog talks about how when he initially got wind about the situation and how he was, at first, not to concerned about the whole situation. Dog then delves into the time when he realized how serious the situation would become, which lead to A&E removing his TV program from the line up. Dog then talks about how he started to make up for the whole controversy, by doing charitable work with African American leaders.
Throughout this portion of the book, Dog goes into great length to discuss why he thought using the “N word” was acceptable for him, but later learned otherwise. Dog also tells many great stories about how his fans and supporters helped him by overcoming the situation and improved him as a person. When it was all said and done though, Dog did get his TV show put back on the schedule and it remains on to this day.
The last portion of the book covers the Chapman Families rough relationship with their “nephew” Justin, who actually isn’t a member of the family. Dog discusses how Justin first came into the TV show, but then how his terrible attitude got him removed from the show. Dog eventually discusses how Justin changed his life following a serious car accident, eventually returning to the program.
Overall, if you are a fan of the Dog The Bounty Hunter television program, then this book is definitely going to be something for you to read.
