In the books introduction that was written by Kevin Smith, the supposed author of this book admits to not actually writing this book, despite being the books author. That would probably leave most of the readers wondering why a person credited as the books author wouldn’t take credit for writing the book. Well, that is because, outside of the introduction, the entire book is just a transcript featuring highlights from Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier’s podcast.
Besides the aforementioned Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier, the book also featured transcribed comments from Walt Flanagan, Bryan Johnson, Malcom Ingram, Jennifer Scwalbach and Harley Smith. The book itself features highlights from the first ever Smodcast, straight through to the eightieth Smodcast (the podcast is now over its hundredth episode).
The book features such fascinating stories like an Alanis Morissette mugging story, the sex life of Kevin Smith’s dogs, the Sundance & Cannes Film Festivals, flea market stories, Helen Keller, the Harry Potter films, the bible (mainly Jesus), Jason Mewes comic book fascination, cloning, the Christmas holiday, the Star Wars films, teenager fights and much more.
From my experience reading the book, the two stories I enjoyed the most were the discussion about the resurrection of Jesus and the possibility that the Helen Keller situation was false. Whether or not you enjoy the same stories as myself, there are well over a hundred stories and highlights in this book for the reader to take a gander at.
Also, there are various computer drawings/images featuring pictorials that highlight the ongoing stories between the cast of characters on the podcast. For the most part, the images do a decent job of giving the reader a visual of what the people are talking about, while some are put on the pages for the obvious gross out and sexuality factors.
Along with the pictures featured on some of the pages, the book also had small sections called “random SMODqoutes”, which features some randon quotes not featured in any of the stories. For example, there are such jewels as “better a gay Batman, than no Batman at all”, “watch your daddy hit a stranger”, “the fat people are taking over, we’re after your pizza” and a host of other quotes.
Overall, if you are a fan of Kevin Smith, Smodcast and Kevin Smith films, then this book is a must read for all of you out there. Otherwise, you might be better suited to check out some of Kevin Smith’s films or Smodcast’s before reading the book.
